MUMBAI: The achitects’ body in Navi Mumbai has demanded cancellation of
about 2.5 acre of land illegally allocated to a prominent city builder
and restore the Konkan divisional sports complex in Ghansoli.
The Indian Institute of Architects wants that the sports complex be developed on the entire 78 acre land. NMMC had proposed a Rs 600 crore investment in 2016 in the sports complex at Ghansoli, but only with a meagre 0.1 FSI (floor space index).
Cidco holds 42 acre land while NMMC has 36 acre at the Ghansoli site. The NMMC had purchased the land from Cidco by paying Rs 22.5crore but its agreement mentions only 0.1 FSI. The land is located in sectors 12, 12A and 13 in Ghansoli. NMMC became the planning body for the node in 2008. The architects body has stated that the international standard sports complex will help Navi Mumbai to be recognised as world’s sports hub.
The 42 acre land was proposed to house a 75,000 seating capacity cricket stadium, a FIFA standard football stadium with an international athletic track, besides 2,500 car parking slots. The 36 acre land will have 16,000 capacity indoor stadium, international sports academy, Olympic standard indoor swimming pool, football ground with athletic track, hostel facility, etc.
We demand that the sports complex be developed as was originally planned as per the Maharashtra Sports Infrastructure Development Plan Policy - 2001. There should not be any change in the original plan. Cidco granting a meagre 0.1 FSI against normal 1 FSI has held up the NMMC work, alleged Kaushal Jadia, chairman, Indian Institute of Architects- Navi Mumbai centre.
