Photograph of first steam car built by R. E. Olds, Lansing, 1886. In 1893, it was sold to an English firm and shipped to their branch house in Bombay, India. It was the first sale of a self-propelled road vehicle ever made in Michigan.
In 1893 the American Ransom Eli Olds obtained his first export order, a 4 wheeled Olds steam car which was despatched by ship to India {{– but it didn’t arrive. The ship sank on the way there.this story of the ship sinking i never heard before, what i read was that the steam car reached India and it was the first steam car in India before petrol cars were made}}
It was the first car exported by the United States.
