The Last of the Seven Bungalows

How did Seven Bungalows get its name?

The last of the seven bungalows, Nazneen BakeryYou can take a guess, the name gives it a way doesn't it just as it suggest there were Seven Bungalows located here among the mangroves and trees, a place one with nature with the beach at the doorstep.

The area at that time had no buses coming to it, it was a small dainty little place. But today its got its own set of fine dining restaurants, the G7 Mall  built, a bus depot and in the future the Reliance Metro will run through it.

What happened to these seven bungalows? Six of the seven bungalows have been sold off to make way for buildings, but yet one of them still stands stall and a family business runs from its ground flow, Nazneen Bakery.
Nazneen Bakery in Seven Bungalows Nazneen Bakery turns out fresh bread, delicious coconut and walnut cakes as well as some yummy Coconut Cookies and Nankaties. Well I probably do a post on that later, but till then take a look at the Seventh Bungalow, the last of the Seven Bungalows.

The Story of The Yoga Institute AT DADA BHAI'S BUNGALOW AT SEVENBUNGALOWS,ANDHERI WEST ,MUMBAI 61

R. P. Masani stumbled upon some of Yogendraji’s translations of Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore, and he invited Yogendraji to his place in Versova. There Yogendraji met Homi Dadina, son-in-law of Dadabhai Naoroji. Mr. Dadina became so impressed with the yogi that he along with a few others started learning Yoga at theVersova Beach.
And with this, on Christmas Day, 25th December, 1918, the Yoga Institute was born at ‘The Sands’ the residence of Dadabhai Naoroji at Versova near Bombay where Yogendraji began sharing the secrets of Yoga among the common

[BUT THE BUNGALOW ''THE SANDS' AT SEVEN BUNGALOWS WAS SOLD OFF TO A BUILDER ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO AND DEMOLISHED ]

A GARDEN NEAR TO HIS BUNGALOW ,ALSO CALLED DADABHAI NAWROJI GARDEN -ALSO KNOWN AS THE ROUND GARDEN OF 7 BUNGALOWS (NOT NANA NANI PARK) IS IN BAD SHAPE NOW ;
BECAUSE BOMBAY MUNCIPAL CORPORATION SAYS IT HAS NO MONEY TO LOOK AFTER THE GARDEN
MEANWHILE THE GARDEN WAS GIVEN TO A BUILDER FOR UPKEEP BY THE B.M.C. SINCE LAST 6YEARS ;ON CONDITION THE BUILDER CAN USE 20% OF THE GARDEN FOR COMMERCIAL USE ,
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS HOW WE LOOK AFTER HERITAGE PROPERTY

AT THIS RATE NEXT CENTURY INDIANS WILL ASK WHY WE ALLOWED ALL THIS TO HAPPEN

MOST SURPRISING IS THAT THE DESTRUCTION OF "THE SANDS" BUNGALOW AT SEVEN BUGALOWS OF THE FOUNDER OF INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS PARTY [THE RULING PARTY] TOOK PLACE UNDER CONGRESS GOVERNMENT ,

THE PRESENT CONTINUING NEGLECT AND DESTRUCTION OF THE PARK ;[ALSO NAMED DADABHAI NOWROJI GARDEN -OR-D.N.GARDEN];NEXT TO THE DEMOLISHED BUNGALOW IS CONTINUING

Row over Mumbai police commissioner's appointment: 2 IPS officers go on leave

Row over Mumbai police commissioner's appointment: 2 IPS officers go on leave

MUMBAI: Two senior IPS officers--Javed Ahmed and Vijay Kamble--who were in the race for the post of Mumbai police commissioner, went on leave on Monday in protest against the appointment of their junior Rakesh Maria, a decision defended by the Maharashtra government.

According to police sources here on Monday, the two officers expressed their disappointment to the state government, saying that injustice had been meted out to them by not considering their names for the Mumbai police's top post.

After Maria's appointment on Saturday to head the 40,000- strong police force, the two officers, who have been appointed to different posts, applied for leave from today to lodge their protest, the sources said. Both the officers were unavailable for comment. The Maharashtra government defended its decision, saying there was nothing "unprecedented" about it.
"Nobody has expressed dissatisfaction to me (over Maria's appointment)... there are no reasons for any such disgruntlement," home minister R R Patil told reporters here.
"If you look at the previous appointments to the post of Mumbai's police commissioner, you will find that seniority is just one of the criterion while zeroing in on the final choice.
"We also take into consideration factors like the quantum of tenure left; in which branch he has worked earlier; what problems is the city facing now...The government weighs on all these factors and takes the final decision," Patil said.
Patil said that as per the Supreme Court directives, the police establishment board was set up and it suggested three names. "Though it is the prerogative of the government, it is a fact that till today seniority has not been the only criterion in these appointments. Despite all this, as far as possible, we consider seniority also but we have to take into account all the other things also," he said.
"After all, the security of Mumbai city is the most important thing. So, others (read Kamble and a few other sidelined senior IPS officers) should not draw the inference that injustice has been done to them," he said.
Ahmed, a 1979 batch IPS officer and former Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), has been promoted as Director General (Home Guards), while Kamble, a 1980 batch officer and former Additional Director General of Police (Highways), has now been transferred as the Thane Police Commissioner.
Maria. who is also of Additional Director General-rank, is a 1981 batch officer and former Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad(ATS) chief. The top post remained vacant for 15 days.
As per rules, the post of Mumbai commissioner of police post can be occupied by an Additional Director General- rank police officer.
"I am sure these reportedly disgruntled officers will join their new postings and will perform their duty to keep people safe," Patil said.

Brothers who alerted cops arrested in Nido case

NEW DELHI: The young man who alerted the police about the attack on Nido Tania is among those arrested for the murderous assault on the 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student. "Sundar Singh, 27, made the PCR call that day and rushed to stop the fight," a family friend said. Sundar's brother Pawan, 28, who signed as a witness, too has been arrested.

Sundar and Pawan run a small production house in south Delhi. On January 29, they were witness to the fight between Tania and the owner of the shop a floor below their flat. They saw policemen come in and also saw them leave after a "compromise" was worked out. They thought they had seen the end of it.

But, on January 31, they were detained at Lajpat Nagar police station. Sundar told policemen he had clicked photographs of the incident and had in no way participated in beating up Nido. They were told they'd be let off soon. On February 3, after Rahul Gandhi's asked home minister Sushilkumar Shinde to take swift action, police announced that they had identified two juveniles and arrested three person. Sundar and Pawan were among them.

Senior police officers insisted the brothers had been arrested only after investigators recorded statements of witnesses and that there was proper evidence against them.

Police said the two brothers, Sundar and Pawan, were arrested in the Nido Tania assault case after there was evidence against them. "We have not arrested them for murder," a senior officer clarified. "Police have identified six people of whom two are juveniles. Three of the accused have been arrested for assault," a police statement said.

Sundar and Pawan live on the fourth floor of a Lajpat Nagar-II building. Their father died a decade ago and the two now take care of their 65-year-old mother. Neighbours describe them as helpful and very social. "Last August, Sundar saved two women travelling in an autorickshaw from being molested by two drunk men near Lajpat Nagar Metro station and even got one of them arrested. The drunkards had even beaten up the brothers," Manju Datta, a family friend said.

"On the day Nido was assaulted, Sundar rushed down from his house after hearing the commotion and called up police. He made the PCR call. He mediated in the fight and helped work out a compromise. His brother, Pawan, was asked by the police to sign as a witness in the compromise. Nido paid Rs 7,000. There was another 65-year-old man who signed as a witness," a family friend said.

Their mother, who was inconsolable and broke down in court, can't believe her sons have been arrested for the crime. "They are innocent. Help them. They are being framed," she cried.

Meanwhile, the 65-year-old man who too had signed as another witness was let off after his family made a hue and cry about his heart problem. "The brothers are being framed. Nobody will come to help others in crisis if such a fate awaits them," said Geeta Chauhan, a neighbour and a family friend.

The photographs of the brawl clicked by the brothers are their only hope. "We are going to submit them as evidence in the court so that they get a bail," said they lawyer, Shalabh Gupta.
