Old Oriental Building At Flora Fountain Bombay, 1900 Postcard

A 1900 postcard of the old Oriental building at Flora Fountain in Bombay (Mumbai). Originally built for the Cathedral High School, this building is situated at the crossroads of Hornby Road, and Esplanade Road and faces Flora Fountain stretch. Although the Cathedral High School building may have appeared even before Flora Fountain was built in 1864.

The building was acquired by the Oriental Life Insurance Company in 1893. The building was another F W Stevens design masterpiece, Stevens had designed the famous Victoria Terminus, Municipal Office, etc. The Flora Fountain was originally named Frere Fountain, in honor of Bartle Frere, who transformed Bombay in the 1860s-70s.
