In 1661, the Portuguese territory of "Bom Bahia" (Bombay) was given to England as part of the dowry of Catherine of Braganza when she married King Charles II of England. In 1668, the East India Company acquired Bombay from King Charles II for an annual rent of 10 pounds
The seven islands of Mumbai are: Isle of Bombay, Mazagaon, Parel, Worli, Mahim, Little Colaba or the Old Woman's Island, and Colaba. Once in the hands of the British Crown, the islands were transferred to the East India Company.
