A Naigue (or Naik) of the Bombay Grenadier Battalion was a non-commissioned officer rank within the Bombay Grenadiers, a historic infantry regiment of the British Indian Army that later became part of The Grenadiers regiment in the Indian Army

The Bombay Grenadiers trace their origins to 1778 when six grenadier companies were combined to form a composite battalion, later becoming the 8th Regiment of Bombay Sepoys and then the 1st Grenadier Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry The regiment was known for its elite status, having been formed from the strongest soldiers, and it earned numerous battle honors including Mangalore, Mysore, and actions in the Second Afghan War and First Anglo-Sikh War

In 1922, during the reorganization of the Indian Army, the Bombay Grenadiers (then the 101st Grenadiers) were merged with the 4th Bombay Grenadiers and the Bikaner Camel Corps to form the Grenadiers Regiment This new regiment was officially raised in 1784 (with the lineage continuing from the older units) and is headquartered in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.  The regiment is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Indian Army, recognized for its gallantry awards and participation in major events like the Republic Day Parade
