This image captures the demolition of the Bombay Fort walls around 1863-1865. The structure visible in the foreground is the original Churchgate, one of the three main entrances to the fortified city. 
 The fort walls, which were 27 feet high and 25 feet broad, were demolished to allow for the city's expansion following the cotton boom after the American Civil War.
