This is an old 1903 postcard of a village scene in Bombay or Mumbai. Another good postcard of a once lush green city of Bombay.

An unimaginably beautiful village scene of a bygone era Mumbai. Both sides of the road are lined with coconut trees and tiled houses with bullock carts on the road. The place is possibly near the Chowpatty Girgaum area at the beginning of the century. Bombay is the capital of Maharastra and the chief city of western India. Essentially a marketplace and financial hub.

A minor trading post four centuries ago under the Portuguese. Then a gift to the British King Charles II of England as a dowry for marriage with Catherine of Braganza of Portuguese Royalty. It was once the largest cloth market in the world, and over 40 percent of India’s maritime trade passes through its ports.
