The Joseph Baptista Gardens in Mazgaon also have a reservoir underneath. Both reservoirs are part of a complex network of underground pipes that provide water to the city. These reservoirs were built in the 1800s due to a shortage of drinking water.3 hours ago

Joseph Baptista Gardens, Mazagaon, Mumbai 1

Joseph Baptista Gardens is a park in Mazagaon in Mumbai, near St Peter’s Church and School, not far from Dockyard Road Station. It is situated on Bhandarwada Hill where the Bhandarwada Water Works or reservoir exists – built by the British in the late 19th century and remains almost intact even today, supplying water to South Mumbai.

I was amazed to find this 1.5 acre park/garden atop a hill in the middle of Mumbai. The view from the park/garden is superb: Mumbai Harbour in the east and South Mumbai in the south. And open skies. There used to be a fort here but nothing of it remains now. This post will feature pictures of the park/garden. Shall post pictures of Mumbai Harbour and South Mumbai tomorrow.
