Mumbai escapes all cyclones ;because, "may be", it is just an island
why i am surprised at the sincerity
of Mr Phadnavis
[usually i avoid politicians]
But it changed when a trivial incident which could have affected the whole Mumbai city was recognised by me when a small cyclone was approaching Mumbai; which was mentioned in weather forecast as low pressure and not as a minor cyclone
This is because i was an avid reader and observer of weather from many years .
Till 1990 weather forecasting in India was very rudimentary as i observed.
Because of rudimentary weather details given out ,
in 1967 a ship which used to carry passengers between Bombay and Goa sunk during a cyclone
Also many cyclones were under reported as just low pressure area during 1980 to 2020 period ,but later same low pressure areas turned into cyclones and hit Gujarat coast.
Though no cyclone ever directly hit Mumbai ever ;many passed very close (100 kms distance )
The storm tracked westwards and intensified further into a Severe Cyclone Storm early on December 1.[16] Soon afterwards, Ockhi intensified further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.[17]
December 4,
On the following day, the power of the storm quickly lessened
it was last noted as a well-marked low-pressure area south of the Gulf of Cambay on December 6
THIS IS THE TIME THAT THE WEATHER BEUREAU TOLD US IN MUMBAI THAT THECYLONE IS DOWN GRADED TOwell-marked low-pressure area.
NOBODY TOOK NOTICE OF THE CYCLONE BECAUSE IT WAS DOWN GRADED FROM CYCLONE TO LOW PRESSURE AREA
I knew though it is a low pressure area STILL IT WILL CAUSE CONTINUOUS RAIN WITHOUT STRONG WINDS[LATER EXACTLY SAME HAPPENED-continuous RAIN -NON STOP FOR 2 DAYS WHILE THE CYCLONE REMNANT PASSED OVER MUMBAI TO REACH CAMBAY

The cyclone made landfall in the region of Saurashtra between Diu and Rajula at around 21:00 IST, and weakened to a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm. Wind speeds of approximately 150 to 175 kilometres per hour (93 to 109 mph) were recorded at the district of Diu in the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.[78] A total of 67 people[79] were killed in Gujarat, while 55,384 homes were damaged.[7] Over 1,000 poles were uprooted while and over 2,400 villages witnessed power supply failures.[80][69][81][74] Only 100 COVID-19 hospitals out of the 400 in the state had power. All hospitals had generators, however, four of them failed. Authorities were sent to repair them. The situation the cyclone brought was labeled as a "double blow" by Udaya Regmi, the South Asian head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCRCS). A COVID-induced curfew that was issued across 36 cities was extended three days due to the cyclone. Originally, it was expected to be cancelled on Tuesday. Several food and water sources that are needed for farmers were interrupted.[50]
