A 1900 photo of British Era Bombay (Mumbai) and a horse-drawn tram. The horse-drawn tram plies the streets of Bombay with a crowd of passengers. Interestingly, on a close-up look of the image, the board on the top of the Tram reads Victoria Gardens To Colaba.

Calcutta and Madras too had horse-drawn tram service that began in 1873 and 1874 respectively. The Bombay tram was electrified in 1874, Madras electrified their tramway in 1895 and Calcutta in 1902. Except for the Calcutta Tramway which is still in use, both the Bombay and Madras Trams shut down in 1964 and 1953 respectively.
