What Happened in June 2014?
- The Culprit: A massive high tide measuring around 4.70 to 4.80 meters combined with strong offshore winds. [1]
- The Result: Even though the skies were completely clear, the sheer volume of the tide caused the Arabian Sea to surge over the promenades. Seawater pushed furiously backward through the storm water drains, causing extensive flooding on the streets of Dadar West (Shivaji Park), Worli Sea Face, and Marine Drive. [1]
- The Aftermath: Because there was no rainwater to dilute it, the receding sea left behind tons of garbage, plastic, and sand all over the roads. [1, 2]

Fifteen security guards have been posted at Gateway of India in South Mumbai from 10 AM to 6 PM and will prohibit people from going near the sea, the circular said.<br><br>
Also, six teams have been made for sensitive areas in the metropolis where each will comprise members of fire brigade personnel, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and lifeguards.<br><br> These will be deployed in areas like Girgaon, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa beach, Gorai beach and Chowpatty beach, where there are chances of flooding.<br><br>

Tidal waves measuring 4.38 metres had lashed the shores of Mumbai yesterday, which submerged several parts of the city under water.<br><br>
The waves had spilled into low lying areas like Worli, Shivaji Park and Mahim and several parts of South Mumbai trapping several vehicles in the water.<br><br>
