A photograph of the Gopura of a temple at Khadki near Poona in Maharashtra from the 'Vibart Collection of Views in South India' taken by an unknown photographer about 1855. Kirkee, also known as Khadki, was a Military Cantonment adjoining the large university town of Poona on the plateau above Bombay and where the Battle of Kirkee was fought between the Peshwas and the British in 1817. The British Residency was located at the confluence or sangam of the Mula and Mutha rivers.
