Nawab of Junagadh At Car Rally From Delhi To Bombay, 1905 Print

A 1905 French newspaper page shows a picture of Nawab of Junagadh in his car following a Delhi to Bombay (Mumbai) rally. This rally was possibly a car endurance trial that began in Delhi in, December 1904 and ended in Bombay in, January 1905. Here the Nawab seems to be driving a Curved Dash Oldsmobile car.

The Nawab and his associates are shown here halting at the Kalyan stage before reaching Bombay in the car rally. Another page from this same newspaper shows images of the participants (scroll down to the bottom of this post). They wait at the finish of the Kalyan stage, probably before proceeding to Bombay, in the final stage. Truly there was an astonishing range of motor vehicles during the turn of the century.

Did you know – that in 1898 Olds Motor Vehicle Company exported a steam-powered automobile to Bombay, making it the first exported American car.
